The matching of Samsung’s exceptional design technology with Google’s latest version of Android software, Ice Cream Sandwich is a combination that fans have eagerly waited to see. Eventually, the phone has been launched in the US and is selling at $300 with a two-year contract. Like its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a product of a joint effort between Samsung Electronics Co. and Google Inc.; and this makes the Galaxy Nexus a strong rival for apple’s latest iPhone. As expected, the phone features a very impressive list of specifications and is the first device to sport the newest Google’s Android OS, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Hardware Review of Samsung Galaxy Nexus
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus specs include a Super AMOLED high-definition screen, dual core 1.2GHz processor, HSDPA, 5 mega-pixels camera and near field technology support. The phone is slightly bigger than Galaxy S2 with dimensions of 135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9mm and is marginally heavier with a weight of 135g compared to 116g for Galaxy S2. Also, the screen is 4.65 inches diagonally. Like the previous phone in the series, Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes with a slim frame, large and contoured display plus a 32 gigabytes on-board storage (for the Verizon version of the phone). The right side of the phone features the power button with three ports below it for various docks. Also, the large screen size makes chatting and watching videos much more interesting. Consequently, watching videos on the phone can now be described as a superb experience. Videos and Web pages are very sharp, clear and bright with a rich combination of colors. Moreover, the volume button on the left edge of the phone is very easy to find with your fingers to ensure you stay glued to the screen when watching an interesting video.

With Ice Cream Sandwich running on Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the phone comes with some exclusive features as well as enhancement of the former features. As expected, based on the new looks on Google’s products, the Ice Cream Sandwich is particularly uncluttered and very easy to use. Interestingly, all the buttons are now touch-sensitive, and they change their directions depending on how the phone is flipped. Also, they totally disappear when you are watching videos or photos. The virtual keyboard has also been completely redesigned to ensure convenience and easier typing of messages. Furthermore, they have changed the touch-sensitive ‘buttons’ below the screen; and the ‘menu’ button has been replaced with ‘recent apps’ that shows the applications that were recently used rather than a long list of menu options. The Android browser and Gmail have also been overhauled. The browser is now faster, and you can search your emails offline. There is also a new option to ‘request desktop’ so that you can view the desktop version of Web pages. Another great feature of the Android 4.0 is the Android Beam. The feature works with NFC technology and enables Android phones to share Web pages, maps, videos etc, by bringing their backs closer to each other. Also, the phone’s 5MP camera is now zippier. You can readily take nice pictures almost immediately you put on your camera. Moreover, with its 1080p high-definition camera, you can record high resolution videos. However, the few unimpressive features of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus include the 5MP camera which could have easily been made 8MP and the lack of card slot for expanding the memory plus the fact that Google Wallet is not supported on the phone in spite of its NFC technology. All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus can be described with two strong phrases – swift performance and fast data speed – plus the completely new experience of the Ice Cream Sandwich from Google. Many people are already calling it the best Android phone available.
