How to Use iCloud: 7 Things You Should Know?


iCloud is Apple’s cloud storage and cloud computing service. The service is exceptional such that iCloud automatically synchronizes your iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches and your Mac to the other devices you own.

The iCloud service is based on ‘push technology’. That means, you can easily synchronize and share your photos, documents, music etc, across several devices. Interestingly, the service comes with free 5GB of cloud storage for all users of iOS and Mac OS. If you need more cloud storage space, Apple offers 10GB additional space for £14 per year, 20GB for £28 per year and 50GB for £70 per year; and these offerings are regardless of your media files.

So, how can you use iCloud?

1. Seamless Synchronization

At this stage of ICT, using multiple devices has become a necessary part of everybody’s life. Hence, iCloud keeps all your documents, media files, address books, calendars etc, updated on all your iOS and Mac OS devices including Mac, iPod Touches, iPads, iPhones and so on. The synchronization service brings greater convenience and reduces the need to take unnecessary gadgets around. Instead, it enables you to view all your files from any of your devices through the cloud. Depending on the file type, you may have to manually upload and download some items from the cloud. The service comes with a unique email account – @me.com.

2. iCloud E-Commerce Back Up:

Whenever you buy anything from the Apple store including music, TV shows, eBooks,   or apps; they are automatically stored in the cloud for you to access anytime, anywhere and from any of your gadgets. Depending on what you buy, some items automatically appear on all your gadgets while others can be downloaded from iCloud anytime.

3. Photo Stream on iCloud:

Every photo you take on your gadgets or import from your digital camera to your computer is automatically copied to all other gadgets through any available Wi-Fi or wired connection. The pictures will be seen on your photo app on your mobile gadgets and picture library on your computer.

4. Find My Friend:

This is a new service that can be downloaded freely from the Apple store. It enables you to share your location with others. You can also receive friend requests to allow others to detect your location. If you want to hide your location, you can also do that on the app.

5. Find My Phone:

This option helps to detect the location of any of your devices on a map. All you have to do is use the Find My iPhone app on any available gadget or log into iCloud from your computer to detect the location of the missing device.

6. iCloud Back Up Service:

This option backs up all your devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch etc.) in the cloud through available Wi-Fi connection. The app only uploads the data that has changed since the last time your device was backed up; so the process is very fast and seamless.

7. Back to My Mac

: This is not particularly a new service, but it is also available in the Cloud. It enables you to access the files on one Mac from another Mac through the Internet.

So, with loads of free services from Apple iCloud, the users of iOS and Mac OS can now enjoy greater convenience using multiple devices.
