Eventually, Samsung Galaxy Nexus was launched on December 15, 2011. The phone was the first to run the amazing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich from Google. Similarly, the much awaited Apple’s iPhone 4S was unveiled on October 4, 2011. The iPhone 4S features some really impressive specifications including the iOS 5.
Considering the fact that these two phones are highly rated in the smartphone market, let’s compare them to see the best buy.
The Difference in Design
Samsung Galaxy Nexus is considerably larger than the iPhone 4S with a screen of 4.65″ compared to the 3.5″ screen of iPhone 4S. However, Samsung Galaxy Nexus is thinner at 8.94mm compared to the 9.3mm thickness of iPhone 4S; and the Galaxy Nexus is also slightly lighter in weight at 135g compared to 140g of iPhone 4S.
The two phones are manufactured with high-quality materials. The back of Samsung Galaxy Nexus is made with plastic whereas iPhone 4S is made with glass plus a steel frame on the body. However, the iPhone 4S is very charming in appearance compared to the more conservative Galaxy Nexus.
The Difference in Display
Interestingly, text and images are vivid and crisp on the two devices in spite of their differences in hardware.
The Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy Nexus comes with a resolution of 1280×720 while the IPS-LCD screen of the iPhone 4S comes with a resolution of 960×640. However, iPhone 4S trumps the Galaxy Nexus in pixel density at 326ppi against 316ppi of Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The most noticeable disparity in the display of the two phones is related to their brightness. The iPhone 4S is brighter than Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but you can increase and decrease the brightness of the Galaxy Nexus. The two devices load Web pages really fast both on 3G and Wi-Fi. So, there is no significant difference in their speeds.
Also, owing to the difference in screen size, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus can be considered more suitable for browsing and watching videos. In addition, the revamped Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard is adequately spaced out and causes much less typing mistakes; thus making typing easier and faster on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Hardware Comparison
Both devices do not have microSD card support for memory expansion in spite of their high profile hardware configurations.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes with 1GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB Random Access Memory and 16GB onboard memory. Similarly, Apple iPhone 4S comes with 1GHz dual-core processor, 512 Random Access Memory plus a choice of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB onboard storage.
However, Apple iPhone 4S trumps Samsung Galaxy Nexus with an 8MP camera compared to the 5MP camera that comes with Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The 8MP camera produces clearly sharper and richer photos even when zoomed. However, Samsung Galaxy Nexus features near field technology, which is not present on the iPhone 4S.
Price Comparison
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is selling at $300 on Verizon Wireless with a two-year contract, whereas Apple iPhone 4S is priced based on your choice of storage capability at $199 for 16GB model, $299 for 32GB model, $399 for 64GB model with a two-year contract with AT&T or Verizon.
